looking for rainbows

somewhere over the rainbow
way up high
there's a land that i heard of
once in a lullabye

somewhere over the rainbow
skys are blue
i don't know how this goes on
but i'll just hum in tune

thats where you'll find me

i remember this song most poignantly in the movie face off

and im still trying to find myself again.

i met up with grace in san fran, had lunch and the cheesecake factory (chicken madeira again, best dish they have) and later attempted to take some pictures with grace's camera, but i had no mojo. NO MOJO. fotos turned out horrible, and yeah wasn't too happy about that. trivial, but nonetheless.

i spent 3 days with huishan in california, during which i picked up driving. first around the carpark where they were setting up a bank account, then later with more confidence, at night when the traffic was scarce, and i hopped onto the freeway from stanford back to her place at hillsdale. i did almost 80mph i think. maybe i'm a natural driver. no problems with parking whatsoever. Haven't tried parallel though. also got to meet up with kiats, which was a good thing. meeting kiats is always good. he's one of those friends i don't see or hear from much but still i think of alot. he's gonna be somebody.

for the days in california before huishan, i spent with my sister, who was around berkeley. we did a road trip down to death valley and back, which was when i first got behind the wheel, on a straight road with no cars. did 45, and drove to the shoulder when cars came by... just in case. so after that driving the nissan sentra that they rented in hillsdale wasn't so bad at all. death valley is beautiful. i wanna go there in the summer to see how hot it gets. the record measured in the shade was 54 deg celcius. and 2 ppl die every summer. i won't stay long, just stay in the car, get out to feel the heat, then back in =P. maybe then after that i'll look to going to the arctic circle/antarctica.

i haven't finished my peru write up. i don't know if i will. blogging has lost its lustre, as has gaming, as has food. it's just one of those days, or rather weeks. i know i'll have an exciting week ahead, and an exciting semester, with new courses and stuff. i'm taking:

Econs II (micro econs)
Principles of Financial Accounting
Intro to Computers and Programming I
Conversations of the West: Antiquity and the 19th Century

So far i've seen econs, acct, and conwest lecturers. good. lets see how computing gets. i always wanted to be a techie. like someone good at computers, hardware and software. to be in the know, to know how to troubleshoot things and write programmes and stuff. i'd say i know more than the average user, but thats not zhai. if i actually have a penchant for programming... who knows. i surely didn't think i did back in paul foo's class in sec 2.

i still can't find my rainbows. i wish ppl could be graded high for being jacks of all trades. i think i'm pretty good at a spectrum of things. just not exceptionally good in any one thing.. except procrastinating.

Maybe if i had more colours in my room, i'd see them sooner. but everything's just black and white for now. i think i need to get a job so i can spend more and buff my resume abit. get used to a new routine. one where i'd work hard, study hard, exercise hard. my play is when i hang around. gaming's not good.

anyone coming down to nyc, dont hesitate to contact me. i think i'm quite approachable, despite all my flaws. i think friends are one of the best things about living, besides family (which is given). i need some excitement i think. so whats new?

guess i have to look for my rainbow.

SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW
BLUE BIRDS FLY
BIRDS FLY OVER THE RAINBOW
WHY THEN OH WHY CAN'T I

I'd think that after a million times of me singing this in the car you'd get it. but then again, i don't think i got King of the Road.

let me try, and remember i'm starting from almost zero

TRAILER FOR SALE OR RENT
ROOMS TO LET FOR 50 CENT
NO CAR NO FOOD NO PETS
AIN'T GOT NO CIGARETTES I...

2 HOURS OF PUSHING BROOM BUYS A...
? BY 4 FEET ROOM,
....
DON'T PAY NO UNION DUES

bridge, i dunno

I'M A...
MAN OF MEANS BY NO MEANS
KING OF THE ROAD
(this is somewhere or other)

Anyways, amua asks if your webcam is good. We can now talk on MSN at home. I had to spend some time figuring out which is the speaker plug so i can pull it out.

what else i gotta say...everyone likes the stuff you bought. fuzzy likes the furry cushions. daddyo and mua liked my poncho. mua liked her letter-opener, fee liked her sweater.

about driving, cut down on the speed, even if you can do it. this is why:

1. it is dangerous, you could kill yourself and everybody else or get people in comas or paralysed. easy to lose control

2. even if you did nothing wrong or did not lose control, someone or something else could be at fault. animal on the road, some other car suddenly cutting into your lane. and the faster u are, the more damage.

3. you might damage the car you are driving or some other car. and then you'll have to fork out lots of money to pay for it because you don't have insurance.

4. you might attract the attention of traffic police. i think max speed limit on highways is usually 65 mph. others are lower speed. usually you'll get a leeeway or 5 mph. that means 70 mph max.

5. you don't have a license. if police come after you, they'll ask to see your license and you won't have any to show and maybe he'll find out you don't even own one. what they'll make you do is any one's guess. fine you, fine the others in the car, fine the owner of the car, give demerit points to the owner, charge you in court, throw you in jail, goodness knows.

creepy, some things are too risky to fool around with.
